GENERAL ASSEMBLY DELEGATE APPLICATION 2018

The Arizona Emergency Nurses Association (AZ ENA) invites its active members to apply as delegates for the fall General Assembly at Emergency Nursing 2018 Conference. Serving as a delegate is a wonderful way to be involved in global emergency nursing issues and to network with emergency nurses from around the world. AZ ENA Delegates are selected based on meeting attendance as well as local, state, and national involvement. ENA Delegates are allocated from National ENA based on the overall membership numbers per state. National ENA determines this number annually. AZ ENA, with our current two-tiered state structure sends the president, secretary/treasurer and past president or president-elect as automatic delegates. A basic criterion for those wishing to be considered follows: You must be a member of ENA for at least one year starting from the time you attend your first state meeting. You must attend at least 50% of the AZ ENA State meetings, one of which must be physical attendance beginning with the second quarter of previous year through the first quarter of the current year (i.e. March 2017 to January 2018). You must be a “member in good standing” which means that you meet the above stated requirements. Committee involvement points are awarded if you are current with all reports & financials at the state level. Points are then awarded for participation and certification. The members with the highest point totals are then offered an AZ ENA Delegate position. Once selected as a delegate there are additional requirements to serve.  AZ ENA STATE MEETING ATTENDANCE: (Attendance verified by State Secretary)  To qualify/be considered completed forms must be submitted to:

Lori Vandersloot, AZENA Secretary. Forms may be e-mailed to secretary@azena.org or mailed to:

4187 W. 5th Pl., Yuma, AZ 85364 by June 2, 2018 so that attendance/points, etc. may be verified prior to

June 11, 2018. Delegates will be notified once AZENA receives the number of delegates we may send to General Assembly from National ENA. This is usually the second/third week in June. AZENA financial support of delegates is a stipend to assist in covering costs of travel and meals.

On behalf of the SO AZ ENA SIG leadership have a special and important Emergency Nurses Week 10/09-10/15, and know you are all thought of and appreciated for all your work on behalf of the patients, our communities and our profession!!

It was good to hear from many of you while attending the Annual/National ENA conference in Los Angeles- it is looking like the 2017 event in ST Louis will shape up as terrific for educational content and networking options. A number of colleagues have preregistered while onsite in LA, but you can also access the very early bird registration fee of $580.00 on the www.ena.org website, you can pay in full or just place a $100.00 deposit to lock in the price. This low fee is till late DEC, check the website for more details.

A summary of the resolutions- GA16-01-Recognition for International Military Members was adopted, GA16-02 Trending Effects of Marijuana- was adopted, GA16-03 Education in Care of Behavioral Health Patients was adopted, GA16-04 Standardizing Handoff Reports- was voted down after a lengthy discussion of efforts and failures from numerous other states, GA 1605 Proposal to Amend Bylaws was sent for additional revisions, GA16-06- Handguns was again this year defeated but the assembly did have discussion open among all the delegate for over 2 hours to invite feedback, concerns, etc. both as a personal issue and professional one. The discussions were lively and much information was gleaned.
